A Survey of Fault Studies With A Large Iot Power Quality Sensor Network

Over the past 5 years, an IOT power quality network has deployed over 1 million sensors across the North American grid. The sensor network reports voltage sags, power outages, surges and a composite power quality index each month. The index has revealed that there are an increasing number of faults for many utilities in the United States. To better understand locations and root cause, a fault correlation algorithm has been developed to better pin point fault locations on the grid. This paper shares the approach and some case studies where this approach has been used.
